About  Canterbury Christ Church University
Canterbury Christ Church University is a public university located in Canterbury, Kent, England (CCCU). It was founded as a Church of England college for teacher education in 1962, and in 2005 it was granted university status.

The university, which was established in 1962, has rapidly grown, and it now has around 15,000 students enrolled in Kent campuses in Canterbury, Medway (as a part of the Universities at Medway collaboration), and Tunbridge Wells.

The university serves as Kent’s largest center of higher education for public services, including teacher preparation, health and social care, and emergency services, in addition to offering academic and professional programs, including doctorates and research degrees in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and applied sciences. The university offers a range of STEM degrees, including engineering and medical, and works closely with the region’s STEM businesses and industry. Together with the University of Kent, the organization launched the Kent and Medway Medical School in 2020.

Canterbury Christ Church University belongs to both the Council of Church Universities and Colleges (CCUC) and MillionPlus, the UK’s Association for Modern Universities. To help church schools experiencing a teacher shortage, the Church of England founded Canterbury Christ Church College (CCCC) in 1962. Classes were first conducted at the priory that was next to St. Martin’s Church. The first headmaster of the school was Frederic Mason.

In 1968, the Certificate in Education was expanded by one year to become the Bachelor of Education, which is the first-degree program. In 1976, the college offered its first non-teaching degree—a BA in Religious Studies. The college was greatly enlarged with the addition of health programs in the late 1980s, and by 1988, the university had 1500 students.

In the Guardian’s rating of UK universities, CCCU moved up 12 ranks from 2014 to 2015, landing at 92nd out of 119. However, it plummeted to number 101 in 2016.
