Shanghai Government Scholarship SGS grants the recipient two categories of scholarships:
Type A (Full Scholarship)

Eligibility Criteria for Shanghai Government Scholarship
In order to be eligible to receive Shanghai Government Scholarship, applicant must meet all the following criteria below:
  • Prerequisite languages: As a rule, an applicant must attain a level of Chinese proficiency of HSK4 and fulfill the requirements of the desired university and program regarding language.
  • Eligible Countries: All World Countries except Chinese citizens.
  • Applicants are required to be non citizens of China and healthy.
  • The Pre-college program requires high school diploma and are supposed to be under 23.
  • The bachelor degree program has a requirement of a high school diploma and it should not be older than 25.
  • The master degree program applicants need to possess a bachelor degree and should not be above 35.
  • Doctoral degree program applicants require a master degree and less than 40 years.
  • Excellent in academics.
  • Presentation of entry requirements of the applied university and program.
  • Applicant must not apply SGS if any other scholarships have been given to him or her by Chinese government or organizations.

How is Shanghai Government Scholarship to be applied?

Application Procedure: To avail Shanghai Government Scholarship, the following steps are to be followed step-by-step:
  1. Online portal: applicant is to register and apply online.
  2. Application is done online and the application form is downloaded.
  3. The applicant is required to apply and enroll online through preferred university site (List of universities is given above). Application application and fee (where necessary) online.
  4. After submit the online application, download and print out the application form. Send two copies of hard-copy application documents (1 set original and 1 set photocopies) to the university to which you have applied.

  2. Academic transcripts (notarized photocopy): The transcripts, which are not written in Chinese or English, should be supplemented by the notarized translations in Chinese or English.
  3. Highest diploma (notarized photocopy):
  4. Photocopy of health certificate and blood test. Carry your original documents in entry into China.
  5. Photocopy of passport, with all Chinese visa pages.
  6. Awards Certificates in your high school (not compulsory).
  7. Those applicants who are below 18 years of age have to submit a Letter of Guarantee by a Guardian.
