American Rapper, Queen Latifah has made history as the first-ever female rapper to bag the Kennedy Center Honorary Award.
Dana Elaine Owens professionally known as Queen Latifah is an American professional and a rap artist, actress and a singer. She received the Kennedy Center Honors Award for her contribution to music in the United States.
The Kennedy Center Honors is an annual honor that is given to those in the performing arts for their lifetime contributions to American culture. The award is America’s highest award for a performer.
Queen Latifah took to her Instagram to share her achievement stating that the moment is like a dream. Let me just take this into consideration for a second. This is very surreal. “I am really grateful to the Kennedy Center,” she said.

She was one of the first to empower women in the hip hop genre and paved the way for many others to come behind her according to BOTWC. Queen Latifah said that she found her love for music through her Aunt who was the director of a mass choir.
She said she learned how to teach harmonies and melodies and watched her build songs into lovely creations that moved through her when they all sang together. She said in her gratitude to a legendary singer, Dionne Warwick, that she inspired and motivated her with her songs and her way of life.
She also thanked her business partner, saying that he supports and believes in everything she want to do. She said that they work together to come up with ideas and plans and he helps to convince others that they can achieve their goals.
Queen Latifah credited her family’s support as the reason for her successful career. She said that they showed her how to have love for one another, have respect, how to be brave, and how to move throughout the world.
Queen Latifah said she is living in the present with no worries on the past and future focusing on being fully present and grateful for her life and achievements.
